Connect with other journalists

Send and answer connection requests, find your notifications and connections, and invite someone new.

Connecting is how you swap contact details. Once you're connected, you take the conversation outside Trustfnd, by email or WhatsApp.

Send a connection request

  1. Find the journalist in the Collaborators tab and click Connect.

  2. Check the email address you'd like to share. We fill in the one on your account, and you can change it.

  3. Click Send. The button changes to Request sent.

Answer a request

  1. Open Notifications, the bell in the top bar. On a phone, it's in the menu.

  2. Click Accept connection, check the email address you'd like to share, and click Accept.

Not interested? Click Ignore.

Once you're connected, each of you can see the other's contact details on their profile. If you started the connection, we recommend reaching out first to get the conversation going.

Where are my notifications?

Click the bell in the top bar. On a phone, open the menu and choose Notifications. A number shows how many are unread.

You'll find two kinds of updates there:

  • Someone wants to connect with you. Click Accept connection, View profile to take a look first, or Ignore.

  • Someone accepted your request. You can now see their contact details on their profile.

Click All notifications to see the full list. We also send you an email when someone asks to connect, or accepts your request.

Where are my connections?

  1. Click Collaborators in the top navigation.

  2. Switch from All to My connections.

Open any of their profiles to find their contact details, with buttons to email them or copy their address.

Why can't I send a request?

The button on a journalist's card or profile tells you where things stand.

The button says

What it means

Connect

You can send a request.

Request sent

You've already asked. Now it's their turn.

Respond to request

They asked you first. Answer their request instead of sending your own.

Connected

You're already connected. Their contact details are on their profile.

Unavailable

This journalist isn't available for connection requests right now. You can try again later.

If the request won't send, make sure there's an email address in the The email address to share field. A request needs one, because that's what the other person receives when they accept.

Invite someone who isn't on Trustfnd yet

Know someone who should be here? There are two easy ways to bring them in.

Invite them to join Trustfnd:

  1. Click Collaborators in the top navigation.

  2. Search for them. If they're not here yet, you'll see Know someone who should be here?

  3. Click Invite someone. We open an email draft for you with a sign-up link. Edit it, make it yours, and send.

Invite them straight into a bundle: when you invite collaborators to a bundle, you can enter an email address instead of a Trustfnd handle. They get an email with a link to join your bundle, and they can sign up along the way.
